Validity Term / Renewal
  • Ten (10) years from the filing date and renewable for periods of ten (10) years
  • Application for renewal must be filed within six (6) months before expiry date
  • Late renewal may be filed within a six (6) - month grace period after expiry date with surcharge
Remarks*
  • A request for trademark cancellation may be filed by any interested party in the event of unjustified non-use for five (5) consecutive years after registration
  • Non-conventional mark including 3D mark, shape mark, packaging, color mark are registrable
  • Multiple-class trademark application is available
  • International Application via Madrid System is available
  • Priority claim of trademark application is available via Paris Convention route

  • Search and Substantive examination (to be requested within thirty-six (36) months from the earliest priority date)
  • Supplementary examination (optional for PCT applications and rely on clear International Preliminary Report on Patentability, to be requested within fifty-four (54) months from the earliest priority date)
  • Acceptance with issuance of Notice of Eligibility
  • Grant of the patent

Grant & Maintenance
  • Twenty (20) years from the filing date
  • The first four (4) years have no renewal fee. The first annual fee is due on the fourth anniversary of the Singaporean filing date (for the fifth year)
  • The patent will expire if the annual renewal fee is not paid within six (6) months after renewal due date
  • Surcharge is applicable for late annuity payment

  • Divisional applications can be filed any time before the grant of the patent
  • Novelty grace period: twelve (12) months before first priority date or filing date

  • Singapore is the contracting party to Hague Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Industrial Designs
  • Multiple design application is available
  • Novelty grace period: twelve (12) months before first priority date or filing date
  • Design granted in Singapore is automatically valid in Cambodia

  • Twenty-five (25) years from the end of the year in which the work was first published for published editions of literary, dramatic, musical and artistic works

  • Copyright is an automatic protection, which arises immediately when the work is created without registration requirements
